Lazy Ways to Stay Skinny

The holidays are seriously delicious, but if you don't watch yourself, you may end up in a food coma...or 10 pounds heavier. Staying slim, or maintaining your weight doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself. Here are a few of my suggestions to keep in mind before you enjoy the holidays.

Speed up your metabolism
Before all the festivities begin make sure you get plenty of zzz's, eat breakfast, squeeze in some cardio, eat spicy foods and sip on green tea!

Keep your own naughty and nice list

A food diary is one of the most helpful things (for me) when it comes to trying to eat healthy. The thought of having to write down 6 peanut butter balls, 2 slices of pie and 3 servings of mashed potatoes is cringe worthy.

Bottoms up

Its the holidays so don't deprive yourself from your favorite seasonal beer or cocktail...indulge in a couple of your favorite drinks then try to stick to drinks that are more waistline friendly. Watch out for liqueur based drinks, try to drink water, don't use sugary mixers and drink light beer.

Stay out of the kitchen
Keep far away from the food table during holiday gatherings...standing next to those tempting little treats makes it harder to resist. Just "one bite" somehow always turns into 400 calories.

You are not the turkey.
So don't stuff yourself!! Think about all the times you have been uncomfortably full and how miserable it is. Ew ew and ew!

BYOD
You can prepare a healthier version of traditional dishes...there's tons of baking substitutes that cut back calories. See below.

December 31.
Remember that little dress you have to squeeze into? Don't forget about it when you're reaching for that second piece of cheesecake.

Move your body
Get off the couch and move! Go on a walk and look at lights, don't drive. Play a game of family football, don't melt into the couch watching it on TV. Any activity helps!

I hope some of these tips will stick in your head while you're celebrating the holidays!

  1. This is so good! I know it sounds weird, but brushing my teeth keeps me from eating for a while haha. I hate the way food tastes after I brush my teeth, and I hate feeling like my mouth is no longer clean.

I am definitely going to be found in the gym or jogging every day up to (and including!) Christmas.
